Ant killer turned ant savior

Our home has been invaded by ants. Today one was crawling across the table.

My three year old daughter, Clara, spotted it first.

Then my wife, Elysha, saw it. She grabbed a napkin and reached for the ant. Just as she grabbed hold of it and squashed it in the napkin, Clara said, “That baby ant came inside because it was cold outside.”

Then she looked at Elysha, an apparent baby ant killer, her face full of confusion and worry.

Elysha paused for a moment and then quickly said, “I’m wrapping that baby ant in a napkin to keep her warm.”

Clara smiled. “Oh! That baby ant will be warm!”

That, my friends, is the stuff of great parenting.
